Simple Ways to Save Water We all want to find a way to lower our bills and it’s
surprising how much water we waste throughout the year. However, there are
several ways you can save both water and money. Making small changes at home
can make a big difference.
At Mark
Hinton & Son Plumbing & Heating Ltd , this month’s blog looks at the
simple ways to save water. For more information, call us in Bristol on 01454 880 017 .
Maintain Your Plumbing Maintaining your plumbing is essential in saving water.
Efficient plumbing ensures clean water and waste removal, alongside reducing
the risk of leaks or flooding. If you have detected a leak, it is important to
have it fixed as soon as possible.
A higher water bill could mean that you have a problem,
especially if it’s not a one off.
Take Shorter Showers Think about how long you actually spend in the shower. We
are all guilty of it and unfortunately, it can waste a good amount of water.
By having shorter showers, you not only reduce your bills
but save time. Try to limit your showers to 10 to 15 minutes to reduce wastage.
Ditch the Baths If you can, try to reduce using the bath. A five minute
shower uses around 40 litres of water – half the volume of a standard bath.
Additionally, if a family of four replaced one bath a week
with a five minute shower, you can save up to £10 on both gas and water bills.
Avoid Running the Taps Leaving the tap running when you brush your teeth wastes a
lot of water. Moreover, it is one of the most common ways water is wasted at
home.
Reduce your water consumption and save 6 litres a minute
simply by turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.
Run A Full Load of Washing Rather than half loads, make sure you fill your washing
machine. This saves you up to 10 litres per wash and uses less energy.
Furthermore, it can also lower your bills.
Another way to ensure efficiency is to wash at 30 degrees or
use the ECO setting.
