If your radiators aren’t heating up properly, they may need bleeding. Trapped air in your heating system can reduce efficiency, leaving your home colder and increasing energy bills. At Mark Hinton and Son Plumbing & Heating LTD, we’re here to help you identify the signs and show you how to fix the issue.

Signs Your Radiators Need Bleeding

Cold Spots at the Top – If the top of your radiator stays cold while the bottom heats up, trapped air is preventing proper circulation.

Strange Noises – Gurgling or bubbling sounds from your radiators indicate air pockets in the system.

Uneven Heating – If some radiators in your home are colder than others, it could mean air is trapped in the system.

Higher Energy Bills – Radiators that don’t heat efficiently force your boiler to work harder, increasing your energy costs.

How to Bleed Your Radiators

  1. Turn Off Your Heating – Let the system cool down to avoid burns.

  2. Find the Bleed Valve – This is usually at the top corner of the radiator.

  3. Use a Radiator Key – Insert the key into the valve and slowly turn it anti-clockwise.

  4. Release the Air – You’ll hear a hissing sound as air escapes. Once water starts dripping out, close the valve.

  5. Check Your Boiler Pressure – If it drops, top it up to the recommended level.
